Arlene Maynard has devoted 27 years to supporting families as a Newborn Care Specialist. Throughout her extensive career, she has had the privilege of working with a diverse array of families, including 74 sets of twins, 4 sets of triplets, and 1 set of quadruplets. These enriching experiences have reinforced her belief that effective nurturing care stems from understanding each family’s unique needs.
Arlene’s approach is anchored in providing individualized support. She listens attentively, adapting her methods to cultivate a warm, nurturing environment that promotes the well-being of both parents and their newborns. Witnessing families flourish with confidence and competence as they embark on the journey of parenthood brings her immense joy.
To offer the most comprehensive support possible, Arlene has expanded her expertise to include roles as a triple certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant and a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist. As a Pediatric Sleep Coach, Arlene takes a holistic approach to sleep. Since sleep is a biological function that cannot be taught, she focuses on sleep biology, family dynamics, the sleep environment, the child’s temperament as well as individual sleep needs to start the blueprint to better sleep. She is able to help parents navigate issues of early wake ups, multiple night waking’s as well as short daytime naps to name a few. Additionally, being that Arlene is the mom of a neurodivergent child, she understands the sleep challenges faced first hand and is passionate and well equipped with strategies to support these families. She is a CACHE Certified Newborn Care Specialist and holds an Advanced NCS certification through the Newborn Care Specialist Association (NCSA). Her training in the RIE method, the Develop*Connect*Nurture method, along with her CPR certification, underscores her commitment to creating a safe, caring space for newborns. These qualifications empower her to address both the physical and emotional needs of the families she serves.
Arlene is currently pursuing certification as a birth doula with CAPPA. Her personal journey, which involved a life-threatening injury that she sustained during a C-section where she felt unheard, has driven her passion for advocacy in medical and home settings. This experience motivates her desire to become a full spectrum doula in NYC, aiming to provide families with the support and advocacy she once needed. Her goal is to support families as they navigate the rewarding and sometimes challenging experience of welcoming a new life with grace and reassurance.
As a mother of two, grandmother of three, and the eldest of four siblings, Arlene draws on her personal experiences to infuse empathy and warmth into her professional role. Additionally, as a certified infant massage instructor, she delights in empowering parents with techniques that foster a deep bond with their little.
